A: We offer excellent levels of service. Your work becomes as important to us as it is to you. We assess how much help you require, and give it - meticulously, professionally, and with full commitment to your needs. Unlike other editing agencies, once we've worked with you we don't cast you off. The Writers Desk is always here when you need it. Questions, worries, or problems - we're never more than an email away.
Q: How do you work with me on my manuscript?
A: When working on your manuscript via email, The Writers Desk uses the annotation facility in Microsoft Word to make suggestions wherever necessary on each page, and once payment has been recieved you will be sent a 'test run' file to explain this procedure in full. Working this way is extremely simple and saves a lot of time - all our clients love it. Your manuscript will be fully line edited, and each correction or amendment will be marked in red font so that you can quickly spot it. We work the same way in hard-copy except that the changes are marked directly onto your manuscript.
The Writers Desk keeps the entire process simple and straightforward and aims for a quality service in the shortest possible time, which is important if you have a publisher waiting for a manuscript to be completed.
Q: How do I send you my manuscript?
A: Send your manuscript by email, or hard-copy by post. You can also send us a CD-ROM containing your work. Send us your manuscript whenever you are ready. If emailing your work you should attach the work to the email in Microsoft Word format.
Whether you are submitting by post or email we will be happy to confirm safe reciept of your work by either email or a quick phone call.
Q: How long does it take?
A: The Writers Desk aims for a quick turnaround of all reports, and short stories can usually be completed within seven days. However, full novel manuscripts are assessed individually and dependant on the level of work involved may take considerably longer. We will always inform you of how long we estimate the work to take. If your manuscript needs to be completed by a certain date then we will make your work our top priority.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: By accepting email submissions our overheads are extremely low and we can therefore relay these savings to our clients. Our rates are the lowest possible, and rest assured that we understand all about the struggling writer, and because of this we are willing to arrange payment in installments if required.
Q: What about rewrites?
A: After your manuscript has been amended in line with the suggestions made by The Writers Desk, you may want us to take a look at the rewrites and we are always happy to do so. There is a 10% reading fee on re-writes which is worked out on the original cost of the edits/critique. The cost of any additional word count will also be added to this total. Please contact us via email with the information and we will be happy to discuss the matter further.
